How the converter works

  1. 01  Pick your source brand and type its manufacturer code or colour name (e.g. "Isacord 3541" or "Kelly Green").
  2. 02  Choose the target brand you want to convert to — or "All brands" to search everything.
  3. 03  Read the ranked matches. ΔE (Delta E) measures perceptual colour distance: under 1.0 is imperceptible, under 2.5 is a close match, over 5 needs verification.
  4. 04  No code? Use the HEX / RGB tabs, or browse a full chart and hit "Convert" on any swatch.

Covering 21 brands and thousands of codes — Madeira Polyneon & Rayon, Isacord, Robison-Anton, Sulky, Gunold, Brother, DMC, Marathon, Fil-Tec Glide, Floriani, Metro, Pantone Solid Coated and more — all matched with the industry-standard CIEDE2000 colour-difference formula.

Frequently asked questions

Which thread conversion is most accurate?

Madeira ↔ Isacord is the most accurate pairing — both offer ~400 professional colours across similar gamuts. Converting to a smaller palette (e.g. Brother's set) will always compromise accuracy.

Why does the thread look different from my screen?

Screens emit RGB light; thread reflects ambient light. Glowing screen colours always look more vibrant. Trust the ΔE number and a physical stitch-out over the swatch on screen.

Can I match a Pantone (PMS) colour?

Yes — pick Pantone Solid Coated as the source brand and enter the PMS number, or paste its HEX. Results are approximations because thread palettes hold ~300–400 colours vs Pantone's thousands.

Where does the colour data come from?

Open-source, community-verified Ink/Stitch thread palettes (sRGB approximations). Brand names are trademarks of their respective owners; this is an independent reference tool.

Can I convert a whole design's palette?

Yes — use the Batch / palette converter to convert a pasted list at once and export CSV or a print-ready PDF, or open a saved design and click 'Convert this palette'.

Matches use CIEDE2000 on open-source Ink/Stitch sRGB palette approximations — mathematical estimates, not spectrally verified. Verify critical colours with physical shade cards and a test stitch-out. Brand names are trademarks of their respective owners.
